Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition that makes it very difficult to get rid of things, even when they aren’t necessary, useful or safe. Hoarding can also be related to excessive shopping, collecting free items compulsively or searching obsessively for specific items.
A person with Hoarding Disorder has a strong aversion to throwing away useless items and a hard time organising their possessions. This often leads to one or more rooms within the home becoming so cluttered, they can no longer be used for their intended purposes. It can also cause family conflicts, relationship challenges and isolation.
Serious hoarding cases can present health, safety, fire and environmental health risks and this can sometimes lead to enforced action from the authorities or eviction in the worst cases.
Our 12-week, trauma-informed 1-2-1 intervention program can:
- help you understand your tendencies and hoarding type
- Uncover the story behind the clutter and understand what it is telling you
- empower you to approach your situation with curiosity instead of judgement
- give you the tools you need to slowly regain control of your space and peace of mind
